Pomegranate, also known as Punica granatum, is a fruit-bearing shrub in the family Lythraceae, subfamily Punicoideae. The pomegranate's skin is inedible and thick, but there are numerous edible seeds within the fruit. Each seed is enclosed by a red, juicy, and sweet seed covering known as an aril. It is originated in Persia and soon extended to Arabia, Afghanistan, India, and China, where it was called the "Chinese apple." Trovefarms maintains dry weather with high temperature (> 30°C) at the time of pomegranate fruit development and repining. The pomegranate season in India lasts the whole year, but as the monsoon season hits, the time for high-quality pomegranates begins.

In Karnataka the drier districts viz., Bijapur, Bagalkot, Raichur, Gulbarga, Bellary and Koppal districts are most suitable for pomegranate cultivation. Pomegranates are the healthiest foods on the planet, packed with nutrients and potent plant compounds. Pomegranate has anti-viral, antioxidant, and anti-tumor properties and is said to be a good source of vitamins, especially vitamin A, C, and E, as well as folic acid. At the global level, India is the world's largest producer of pomegranates. Trovefarms produces and exports commercially grown Indian varieties like Ganesh, Ruby, Arakta, and Bhagwa. Trovefarms cultivate and procure pomegranate from major producing states such as Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
